Meet the Team
Rita started knitting before she started school, followed closely by crochet. She is of an age to remember wearing skimpy crochet mini dresses during the seventies!! (and had the figure to go with them!!) A self taught dressmaker in the '80s, followed by learning to spin in the '90s and rearing coloured sheep, all the while doing cross stitch and tapestries, Rita is a confirmed "dabbler" having unravelled the mysteries of stamping and card-making, hardanger, decorative painting and now quilts and quilt making. The last great mystery to be unravelled was business and the business of business, which she is still enjoying after nearly 10 years of creating a shop with a difference where browsing is a legitimate hobby and friendly helpful service is guaranteed.
Jennifer began making dolls from polymer clay at age 12 and continues to teach the tips and techniques of this amazing product through the shop. She dabbled in decorative painting but found her passion for fabrics when starting work at Crafters Heaven. She is now into art quilts with humour, using a "diverse palette" (scrappy to the uninitiated) and giving new life to orphan and redundant blocks. Jennifer now possesses a huge eclectic collection of retro fabric and objects "even ugly things need a good home", and is a complete Trade Me addict. Brenda firmly believes that pink is the new black, although now branching out on the colour wheel to purples, lilacs and even blues. She stared her crafting life as a knitter and dressmaker, quickly mastering cross stitch then falling in love with fabrics on arrival at Crafters Heaven. The arrival of gorgeous packs of beads inspired a journey into beading and jewellery making, but she is now the queen of home decor items from small wall hangings, table runners and place mats right up to queen sized bed quilts which Brenda now makes for sale. Anything of hers hanging on the walls has a price tag. With three children in tow, Brenda finds spare time hard to come by, but determinedly makes time to craft. Our neat and tidy fanatic, she keeps everyone else in line. |
