  • 2 December 2011.  Hello everyone,
Isn’t it nice to have a few warm days. Feels like summer is on it’s way.

Today is your last chance to vote on the “It’s Christmas Jim, but not as we know it” charm pack challenge. This time we have 14 gorgeous entries and if you go to www.craftersheaven.co.nz/news and click onto the Facebook page, you can see all the pics – without having to join Facebook!! All proceeds are going to Womens Refuge – a worthy cause.

Jan Duckett, our jewellery expert is offering to be in the shop on Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm to either fix your broken pieces, or teach you how to for yourself, or to just get some of her own beading done. She’ll be here Tuesday 6th Dec and  13th as well. If things go well, we’ll look at doing it again in the new year.

Noeline Day from The Quilting Shed won’t be back again until the last Thursday of January 2012. That’ll be the 26th. It would be a good idea if you’re planning on bringing a quilt in for Noeline to let either her or me know and then she’ll be here for the full 2 hours.

I’m about to post a photo of some gorgeous crochet snowflakes by Margaret Norrish under www.craftersheaven.co.nz/possibleclasses. If you think you’d like to learn how do do this, let me know.

Don’t forget that I’m available to teach Hunters Star or the Beginners quilt any day that suits you except Sundays and Tuesdays. Happy to teach one at a time too.

With the Christmas chaos about to strike, remember to take care of yourself too. Best wishes for now, Rita.

  • October 2011

Hello everyone,

Long time, no word, but now I’m over my winter glums and the days are getting longer and warmer and there have been a few changes, I thought it was time to write.

Thank you for those who have been asking for classes again. I’ve organised a few things as per below and they can also be checked on the website. www.craftersheaven.co.nz/classes/confirmed

The biggest change is that the fabric has been relocated into a room that you probably didn’t know existed, but as snug as ever in new surroundings, with great light and a view. (Fabric always needs a view!)

This means that the former fabric room has become a classroom for small classes (up to 6 will, I think, fit in there) and also for use by you should you so choose. We’re aware too, that money is still tight, so class costs have been adjusted too.

I have two classes on confirmed dates Machine Quilting with Maria Travers on Thursday 27th October from 10am to 4pm at a cost of $35.00 per person. You’ll need to check the needs list for this or I can email to you. Please note that this is also the morning that Noeline from The Quilting Shed will be in store to collect and drop off quilts, so … if the machine quilting seems a bit too daunting, then you could discuss requirements with Noeline – just kidding.

A couple of people were asking about jewellery making, so Jan Duckett is running a Basic Jewellery Techniques class on Saturday 5 November from 10 am to noon at a cost of $20.00 with all materials supplied.

The other two classes that I can teach depending on the days I am here and what suits you, are the Hunters Star and the Beginners Quilt. These classes would start at 9 am to get you under way with the shop opening at 10am. I’ve attached photos for you to see.

Heather Atkinson was considering a once a month Scrapbooking afternoon, but has yet to let me know what day each month. This would involve bringing your own stuff and getting on with it. If you are keen to join, email Heather at theatkinsonfarm@xtra.co.nz and she will co-ordinate.

Last, but by no means least, Catherine Lawes, a quilt tutor from the South Island called into the shop recently and showed me some of her work - just amazing and as usual, photos don't do justice. She is available to tutor and I said I'd check if there is any interest out there for a workshop with her. Please let me know if you are keen and I'll get more details.

August 2010

We have a Beginners Quilting class for the end of the month, Thursday 26 August, Tuesday 31 August and Thursday 2 September. I'm sure there'll be some more stunning quilts from this one.

Just arrived are some very pretty batik scarves hand dyed in Sanur, Bali. What a lovely gift for yourself or a friend.

July 2010

We've had some new fabrics arrive and they are quite different. They've come from Japan and have a "je ne sais quois" aura. The "Wa-Modern" ones, (below) look like they have a slub texture to them, but it's just the printing process.

This range in hot pink, black and bling would be classy for girls of any age.

And finally some lovely earthy Kiwiana batiks to round out the range.

Cheers for now and happy crafting,

Rita.
